At a Drupa 2012, FFEI met with a company, who for more than 60 years has been supplying furniture manufacturers with customer orientated thermoplastic extrusion edgeband solutions. Indeed they are now, worldwide, one of the leading companies in its field.
They have continuously been setting new industry standards within design and décor cross reference lists, pioneering joining technologies (laser, plasma, hot air, NIR) and creating tangible experiences as well as surface finishing from super matt to high gloss to 3-D depth effects. They were now looking toward digital inkjet technology, specifically the development of a digital inkjet edge band solution.

WHY FFEI

The client approached FFEI because of our proven competency in colour management and inkjet experience, having developed the first hybrid digital inkjet system a few years before.

  • THE SOLUTION

    Building on existing proven digital inkjet technology FFEI created a bespoke digital inkjet edgeband solution that delivered all of our client’s needs. It was reliable, provided prints with an exceptional image quality aided by clever colour management software.

Phase 1 – feasibility

Rigs built to demonstrate and text functionality required

FFEI’s R&D team developed and built a number of rigs to demonstrate and test functionality, which the client would approve before they were integrated into the final product.

Phase 2 – product development

Solution packaged to ease incorporation into the client’s production house 

Once feasibility testing of all the essential elements was completed, the R&D team were able to package the solution to allow it to be easily incorporated into the client’s production house

Phase 3 – Installation & training

Product manufactured, with training and support provided

FFEI manufactured and installed the inkjet edge band solution on the client’s site. In addition FFEI staff were able to fully train staff so that they could become self sufficient.
